When Balaam spoke over Israel, a Lion appeared in his words:
“He crouches, he lies down like a lion; like a lioness—who dares rouse him?” - Numbers 24:9
At one level, this is Israel-strong, protected, set apart.
But the language reaches back further.
Jacob had already said:
“Judah is a lion’s cub… the scepter shall not depart from Judah…” - Genesis 49:9–10
Now the focus narrows:
From a nation → to a tribe → to a King.
But the promise begins even earlier.
“In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed.” - Genesis 22:18
That “seed” could sound like many.
But Paul removes the ambiguity:
“It does not say ‘and to seeds,’ referring to many, but to one… who is Christ.” - Galatians 3:16
So the promise was always moving toward a Person.
Jesus-
The Seed.
The Lion of Judah.
The King.
But it doesn’t stop with Him
This is where many either overreach-or stop too early.
Paul continues:
“If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” - Galatians 3:29
Notice the order:
- Christ is the Seed (singular)
- We don’t replace Him
- We participate in Him
The promise is not multiplied by many seeds-
It is shared by many people in the One Seed.
What does that mean?
It means:
- The victory of the Lion becomes your covering
- The promise to Abraham reaches the nations through Christ
- And those in Christ are brought into that same inheritance
Not by ethnicity.
Not by effort.
But by union.
Read the thread again
- Abraham → the promise of a Seed
- Israel → the carrier of the promise
- Judah → the royal line
- Balaam → the Lion घोषित in prophecy
- Christ → the fulfillment
- Believers → participants in Him
This was never just about a nation.
And it was never just about individuals either.
It was about God revealing His Son… and then bringing a people into Him.
