Love Covers

Love is Jesus becoming sin, letting God curse sin in the flesh and killing it so that you can be free from it.

Love does not become guilty of sin with you in order for you to be guilty together, thus making being guilty good. That is not what ‘love covers a multitude of sin’ means. If it did, then you would have no prospect of ever really becoming free. Love has sympathy and compassion for where you are, wherever you are, but it will always have a main goal of setting you free, because to Love you have a great value and are not just a throw away. It was for freedoms sake that He set us free, how will we submit to bondage again if we have been made free?

Look at these verses together :

And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

1 Peter 4:8 NKJV

This fervent love comes with the reason that is mentioned in the beginning of chapter 4 of 1 Peter :

Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

1 Peter 4:12 NKJV

Why does it say ‘cover’ the sins? To understand what is meant by this word “cover”, let us see where else it is used.

Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

James 5:1920 NKJV

So covering it, which also means to hide it, doesn’t mean to become guilty with(like to hide it so God won’t see it), it is to rather help the person in a way to put their sin where they can’t find it, but instead finds freedom, hope and grace. This is because love makes you believe good things are in people that they don’t even believe are in them. Love makes you have more hope for them than they do for their own life.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

I Corinthians 13:47 NKJV

Covering in love means you have the heart to meet them where they are and to take them where Christ is.
